Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is launched, after many leaks, many render images and a lot of assumptions.
Samsung, in their Unpacked Event on 11th this month, launched a total of four new phones. Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus, and Galaxy S20 Ultra are the flagship devices from the company’s lineup. What steals the show was Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, mainly for its 108MP camera with 100x zoom.
But what drew the most interest and showcases where the smartphones will be in the future was the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. The phone will definitely remind you of the Moto Razr v3. The device carries the same form factor and opens up by flipping vertically.
Why it costs $1,380?
This is the second foldable phone from the company, and it is priced lower than the Galaxy Fold and Moto Razr at $1380 (Rs. 98,400). The phone comes with last year’s Snapdragon 855 that has a 7nm octa-core processor, 256GB storage, 8GB of RAM, and eSIM support. To take benefit of the folding vertical display, Samsung has added some UI tweaks and gestures.
The phone comes with Samsung’s proprietary Ultra-Thin Glass. It is a glass layer which makes the device look sturdy and screen less delicate. So when you have scratches on display, you can just change the layer and keep the display as it is.
It is a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display that is 425-pixel density. Both the cameras are 12MP wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle cameras. The front camera is 10MP, and the battery is 3,300 mAh. The phone comes with a mono speaker below right next to the type-c charging port.
The Galaxy Z Flip phone has a unique design, as you know by now that it has a glass display and not plastic as we see in all the other foldable phones. It closes vertically and looks like a small laptop without a physical keyboard and only screen.
However, there is a crease where the phone closes, and when you are scrolling on the screen, you can feel it. Maybe after a while, you will get used to it, but initially, it will definitely feel a bit strange.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip vs. Moto Razr
With the flagship processor, low price, and it’s flip design, it will definitely give fierce competition to the Moto Razr. The Moto Razr has Snapdragon 730 and is priced at $1,500.
There is a small display of size just 1.06 -inch outside the phone near the camera. You can receive notifications on the screen and also interact with it for changing music and take selfies whenever it seems necessary. The hinge can stop at any angle and be used that way.
Samsung is really proud of the ‘invisible hinge,’ meaning you can’t see the hinge from anywhere on the phone. Also, the company they have used a new sweeper technology that uses nylon fibers to prevent any dirt or dust from entering the hinge. So every time you open the hinge, the fibers brush off any of the present dust particles.
As of availability, there is no possible way to pre-book the device for now. The company will launch the device in limited quantities in Korea and the USA on February 14. I’ll update this post when I have launch dates are available for India.
